1 Day Trip to Kelso Dunes in the Mojave Desert, California

April 9, 2016

Duration: 1 day
Mileage: ~430
Starting point: Irvine, CA
States: CA
Budget for 2 people: $70 ($40 gas, $30 food)

  •  Day 1: drive from Irvine, CA to Kelso Dunes, CA (215 mi, 4 h) and back

Now when the weather is getting warmer and nicer we are also trying to explore more areas close to us. We have recently learned that there is a massive sand area in 3 hours from us - Kelso Dunes. We decided to explore it immediately and to take some photos.

As the area by itself is sand only and the only reason we went there is to climb some dunes and take sunset photos - this post will be pictures only :) In general it is tiring to drive 7 hours during one day, we would recommend camping there for a night. It is very easy to find the area, google maps lead directly to the trail start. There is a 3 mi dirt road that leads to the trail, but it is accessible for all types of vehicles. You can also climb all dunes and do 4 mi hike which is quite a challenge.

So here is promised pictures so that you can judge whether you want to visit this place:
